Boost and Bounce: Three Ways to Add Volume to Your Hair

Boost and Bounce - Three Ways to Add Volume to Your Hair 1

We’ve all looked longingly at the locks of celebrities wondering how they always get their hair to lift, bounce, twist, or curl in just the right way.

For those of us who don’t have a stylist to the stars on speed dial, there are still ways to glam up your ‘do and give it that extra oomph you’ve been envying.

1. A ‘Celebrity’ Trick

Human hair extensions are one of the hottest celebrity tricks for giving hair that unmistakable wow-factor. Unlike wigs and hairpieces of our mothers and grandmothers, today’s human hair extensions are made out of some of the healthiest hair on earth and will add class and lift to any style. They also create volume, which is especially nice if your hair is thin or short and you need the added length!

2. Use Quality Hair Products

Even though hair extensions give you that much needed volume, still you should use good products to add volume to your hairstyle. However, be wary that not every hair product tells the truth. Some shampoos, gels, and mousses promise volumizing power but really coat your hair with residue that will eventually build up and weigh hair down more in the long-run. There’s a reason that high-quality hair products are a little more expensive: they satisfy. Invest in a good shampoo, conditioner, and mousse that will not weigh down your hair. Consider washing your hair in a clarifying shampoo once or twice to clean off any reside that is already there (but not too much – clarifying shampoo may dry out hair).

3. Use the Right Tools

The right tools also help increase volume. Large, Velcro rollers or heated rollers provide a great amount of volume when placed strategically and left in long enough to set. Curling irons and straight irons can also be placed close to the roots of the hair to increase lift and body. If you’re hesitant to use too much heat styling, use a vented curling brush with a blow dryer. Blow dry hot at first and then cold to set the volume. Then you’ll have beautiful tresses that are full and bouncy!

The key to incorporating any new element into your hairstyle is to practice it days before you have an important event. Styling hair takes some technique, so be sure to spend some time perfecting your technique before you’re strapped for time and feel the pressure of looking your best. Once you have the look down you’ll be proud of yourself for your hair accomplishments. Enjoy your bouncy, beautiful hair – and the way it makes you feel!
